Are project managers acting as a guild?
Guilds have been around since ancient times. A guild is a group of people that have in common a particular domain or trade, and come together to exchange knowledge and experience with the aim of mastering the trade. As project managers, we have been around since ancient times as well. Furthermore, we also share our knowledge and experience to improve our skills to become experts in our field. A field where there are no firm rules to govern our profession. We do have the PMI code of ethics and conduct as common base. In addition, we have in common, our creativity to solve issues, our trust to build relationships, our sense for responsibility, our focus on the outcome, our motivation to get the job done and our passion about our profession. This all builds up into a legacy of expert practices that everyone in the field of project management can benefit from.
So, are we acting as a guild? This is the question we will seek to answer at the 10th PMI Benelux Day, where we will build upon the successful approach we introduced last year. Therefore many topics during this event will be closely linked to "The Guild of Project Managers". At the end you'll be able to see the commonalities and make the distinctions to draw your own conclusion.
You can join us as a presenter, sponsor or volunteer!
