Projects face major challenge when the deployment of the project outcome or implementation of the project result is also within scope of the project. Similarly, projects dealing with transformation or renewal face major challenge. Statistically success rate (ability to achieve the complete target on scope and time) of such projects are substantially lower compared to projects whose scope exclude deployment of their output.

This challenge is not due to any deficiency in project management, but is due to the inadequate tools and methodology around change management.  All these situations involve change that deal with people. Hence the relevant processes offer less predictable outcome, are less controllable and need some additional tools, methods and sub-processes or techniques to bring in stability.

Giselle Vercauteren has come up with a framework suited for Europe, which can be fully tailored to map to any specific change situation in any organization. In this presentation she would like to introduce this framework and share its potential.

Each change is unique. It is dependent on the organization where the change is taking place; the people participating in the change as well as the people to whom the change is targeted. Risks associated with unmanaged change and the change type substantially influence the change outcome.

So the first step is to scope the change in a structured way, such that the change management tools can be tailored. It is important to adequately suit the specific need of a particular change. To achieve that, we conduct:

  • Organization culture assessment
  • Reputation assessment
  • Evaluation of the type of change
  • Risk assessment

Based on these inputs, a business case for the change can be derived to sufficiently scope the change. In addition, the assessment of the capacity for change is essential, since the change strategy and the high level plan is dependent on this capacity.

With these results, tailored actions can be planned in relevant details to ensure change implementation and sustainability with our framework AR²ISE.
